About the Client

BYO Living is an award-winning weaving atelier that turns natural fibre into architectural surfaces.

Working out of Indonesia, BYO Living hand-weaves bamboo, rattan and other natural materials into ceilings, cladding, facades, partitions, furniture and large-scale installations. Their work sits inside hospitality, office, government and residential projects — from a woven staircase in a corporate headquarters to full facade systems for a hotel — and has been recognised with international design awards. It is a business where the product only makes sense once you see it at building scale.

The Challenge

The old site treated BYO Living like a catalogue of products rather than a studio with a body of work. Projects were hard to browse and impossible to filter by the thing specifiers actually search for — the application: ceiling, cladding, facade, partition, furniture, installation. Awards, exhibitions and upcoming events had nowhere to live. And the photography, the strongest asset the brand has, was competing with the interface instead of being carried by it.

Our Approach

Structure the portfolio first, then design around the material.

We started with information architecture, not visuals. Every project was mapped against the application it solves and the sector it sits in, so the catalogue could be filtered the way an architect or interior designer thinks. From there we built a single project template — cover image, brief, material, application, gallery — that keeps every case consistent no matter who adds it. The homepage was rebuilt around three jobs: state what the atelier is, prove it with awards, and push visitors into the work. The visual language stayed deliberately quiet — warm neutrals drawn from the material palette, restrained type, and full-bleed photography given room to do the talking.

The Result

A portfolio that reads like a showroom.

BYO Living now has a site that opens with the atelier's positioning and award credentials, surfaces upcoming exhibitions on a dismissible notice, and moves visitors straight into the work. The project index is filterable by application and sector, and reads either as a grid of covers for browsing or as a list with location, architect and year for anyone comparing specifics — so a specifier looking for ceiling systems reaches them in one click instead of scrolling a flat page. Each project page follows the same structure, which means the team can publish new work without a designer in the loop. The whole thing is responsive, so the photography holds up on a phone in a site meeting as well as it does on a studio monitor.

A better solution, not just what we asked for

"What I really admire is how they advise you on what is possible and what is not, and offer a better solution when something does not actually match our needs. They took notes on every requirement and every pain point, and they have an eye for even the smallest details. Would I recommend them? Absolutely."
